USA. Aslan to develop waterside village in historic Beaufort South Carolina

Sunday, 16 July 2006

Louisville, Kentucky-based Aslan, a comprehensive real estate development firm specializing in residential and destination properties across the southeastern United States, has announced plans to create a new mixed-use residential community in Beaufort, South Carolina. Whitehall is a waterside village situated on the Beaufort River and designed in the spirit of Historic Beaufort with more than 200 residences planned, from lofts to riverfront homes.

Whitehall is representative of the new urbanism neighborhood design. Savannah-based Dawson Wissmach, architects for the project, is a specialist in new urbanism design, particularly for properties in the lowcountry region. At Whitehall, riverfront homes, townhomes, cottages and lofts above offices, shops and restaurants will be built in and around a town center. There will also be a boutique Inn located in the town center. Front porches, open green spaces, meandering trails and sidewalks will invite neighborly conversations, morning strolls and bike rides.

The architecture is inspired by classic lowcountry vernacular, such as deep porches, tall windows, high ceilings and symmetrical design, with an eye towards modern functionality and comfort. The timeless design creates a community that feels like a natural extension of Historic Beaufort. Much of the riverside terrain, rich with marsh grass, moss-covered oaks and palms, will be left untouched, and small parks have been carved around pockets of grand oaks.

Reservations will be accepted in November 2006.
