Fasthosts Sponsors Pixel Boat’s Around the World Challenge
8 November 2017 – Gloucestershire, UK.
Fasthosts is pleased to announce its sponsorship of long-term customer Alex Alley, in his solo non-stop around the world record attempt on his 40ft yacht, known as Pixel Boat.
Alex has been sailing his way towards seven record-breaking achievements before taking on the global challenge next year. With Fasthosts proudly emblazoned on the sails and CloudNX used to run his website below deck, Alex is considering other challenges before building up to ‘the big one’ in November 2018, which will see him undertake the lengthier solo around the world trip.
To help fund the ambitious voyage, Alex has set up a website where individuals, companies and schools can purchase ‘pixels’ to feature on the hull of the yacht. For a minimum donation of £25, images can be uploaded and displayed – so far Alex has accumulated logos of local businesses, pictures of beloved pets and happy couples, and memorial images, all adding to the personal feel of the record attempt.
“Fasthosts have been looking after my website for many years, so I contacted them when I needed something more powerful to cope with the extra demands of the Pixel Boat side of the website. Since changing over to CloudNX, a dedicated cloud platform, the website loads significantly faster and allows me to run the site without compromise.”
As he sets off from Ushant, France, Fasthosts will continue to share Alex’s progress via social media, including monitoring his GPS tracker, as he looks to beat the current world record of 137 days, 20 hours, 1 minute and 57 seconds.
A yachtsman and motivational speaker, Alex has sailed all his life, representing England in the world championships by the age of 20, sailing around the world as part of the 18-strong Team Stelmar in 2004, and beating the 876 mile Land’s End to John O’Groats record. To this day he continues to break records with a solo round the Isle of Wight record achieved in January 2017. With practice and preparation key, Alex has spent six years building up to the big challenge.
“One thing I’ve learnt over the years is never to give in.” confirms Alex. “It’s been a challenge to get this far. That resilience has been formed over the years sailing through the world’s oceans. It’s a volatile environment and you have to rely on so many different systems all working together, which is why I never settle for anything less than the best – failure is simply not an option”.
Fasthosts is delighted to be sponsoring the mainsail and Solent jib, in addition to supporting Alex’s website. Fasthosts will be following Alex and Pixel Boat throughout the campaign, from unveiling the sails to building up to the challenges.
