In March, The New York Times reported a national upswing in coastal, second-home sales thanks to still-low mortgage rates and leisure-minded baby-boomers looking toward retirement.
While figures for this year are not yet available, the National Association of Realtors reported in April that last year vacation home sales were up 16.9 percent and second home sales increased a whopping 39.9 percent. Topping the list of what second homeowners value most in their property, the largest percentage, 40 percent, said being close to water.
Situated in the Bird Rock area of La Jolla overlooking the ocean, Seahaus homes take advantage of mesmerizing coastal views through expansive windows in almost every room. The neighborhood incorporates several fountains on beautifully manicured grounds and recreational amenities such as swimming pool, spa, firepit, barbecue grills and fitness center.
Merrill Barden, a Seahaus resident who also owns a home in Texas, describes Seahaus as the ultimate in California homes.
"Seahaus offers all the luxuries of the ultimate urban lifestyle, yet captures the laid back attitude of San Diego," said Barden, who is retired. "It's in walking distance to the shops and the beach, so I can get away from it all without making any sacrifices."
With its pristine white sand beaches edging the luminous Pacific, it's no wonder why La Jolla's first residents named it "the jewel." Located 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego and a stone's throw from the prestigious University of California San Diego, La Jolla is home to surfers and college co-eds as well as business moguls and families. The pedestrian-friendly city boasts beautiful beaches with a plethora of surfing spots, exclusive art galleries, golf courses and fine dining establishments.
