The Boat Works on the Gold Coast has completed a three-year development program and $20 million investment in its 23 acre site.

The major additions to equipment and facilities enhance its offering to boaties, whether owners of trailerable craft or yachts up to 110-feet (33.5-metres).

The Boat Works is located at the gateway to the only purpose-built Marine Precinct in Australia, offering clear access to the Broadwater and Seaway. This has proven a compelling reason for southern yachties making the migration north to The Whitsundays to stop and attend to their boats’ repairs and maintenance while enjoying a few days R&R in Australia’s perennial holiday destination.

The team at The Boat Works can confidently say it is home to the largest concentration of marine trades in Australia, with more than 40 individual businesses on-site, each operating independently to guarantee clients competitive quotes and transparent pricing.

Owners and Captains can deal direct with companies, or assign a project manager to handle the entire job. Seven days a week, high-calibre marine businesses are accessible, whether for routine maintenance or a hull-up refit: sandblasting, antifouling, repairs, painting, inspection of sails and rigging, chandlery supplies, timber and teak experts, upholstery and stainless steel, shipwrights, mechanical and electrical engineers, surveyors, watermakers and desalination equipment, electronics and refrigeration, signage and graphics and boat brokers.

In 2015, The Boat Works welcomed a 100 Tonne marine Travel Lift which carries boats up to 110-feet with a beam of 26-feet. Known as “Harry”, it joins the yard’s 70 Tonne travel lift, “Sid“, and a unique 45 Tonne hydraulic submersible Sealift, ideal for wide-beam catamarans.

Custom-designed and built superfenders ensure every boat is buffered and hauled with The Boat Works’ trademark treatment, just as owners would expect.

Adding to its complement of 30 Refit sheds are four new Prestige Supersheds that are 15-metres in height and can accommodate boats up to 36.5-metres (110-feet). There is also a new undercover hardstand area, offering true all-weather work environments. Then there’s a dedicated hardstand storage facility for vessels up to 110-feet, and a new showroom which will soon welcome retail tenants attracted by the high visibility of its prime street-front position.

The new Travel Lift and Sheds have already proven a boon, as word spreads of The Boat Works’ cost-effective, convenient and five-star service.

Recently, The Boat Works was the choice for Melbourne owner of an 87-foot Warren Yacht, returning to Melbourne from a season in The Whitsundays. The Boat Works’ 15-metre high Refit Shed was ideal for the complete repaint job, which proved a significant saving to the owner.

An 86-foot Feadship from Sydney, another yacht returning from a sunny sojourn in The Whitsundays, stopped in for the works, including a hull extension and addition of a high-tech hydraulic swim platform.

The 60-foot Nautor’s Swan Kings Legend booked in to The Boat Works for thorough preparation on its sails, hulls and nav gear prior to the 2015 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
