Williams and GAC Pindar top qualifying at Stena Match Cup
Alpari World Match Racing Tour – Stena Match Cup, Day Four

Ian Williams and his GAC Pindar crew have continued their strong start to the Stena Match Cup by winning both of their races today to finish top in qualifying with a 12-1 record and secure passage through to the quarter finals tomorrow, where he will face Joachim Aschenbrenner and Team Tri-Fork. (4 July).

In his first race of the day Williams defeated the experienced New Zealander Phil Robertson (Waka Racing), thanks to skilful work from the GAC Pindar team in superb racing conditions. Williams and his crew then defeated Keith Swinton of Team Alpari to cap a near perfect qualification programme that saw just one lost flight in Sweden all week.

Francesco Bruni of Luna Rossa follows closely behind in second, with Mathieu Richard (LunaJets) and Swinton (Waka Racing) in third and fourth respectively.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s quarter finals Williams says: “The wind conditions were very strong today and it made for some really exciting ties. It was credit to the crew that we were able to win both of our races today and secure our place at the top of the leaderboard. I’m pleased that we’ve taken our good form from Match Race Germany and transferred it directly to the waters of Sweden. Our focus now is maintaining our form to get through to the final on Saturday and making it two wins out of two for the season.”

Action continues tomorrow at 9.30am local time.
