Celebrating Twenty Years of RS Sailing at the End of Season Championships - Luke-Patience
The 2014 RS racing season reaches its climax this weekend at the Datchet Water Sailing Club for the Volvo RS End of Season Championships. 2014 marks RS Sailing’s Twentieth Anniversary; and this year’s End of Season Championships promise to showcase what twenty years in sailing has achieved. Ten classes of boats will all come together on the same patch of water showcasing how vibrant and varied RS boats are.

As part of Volvo Car UK’s support of the RS Class Association, it will have a strong presence at this event, putting on a variety of activities set to take place. Team Volvo sailor and London 2012 Olympic silver medallist, Luke Patience will be making an appearance on and off the water, competing in the RS200 class as well as hosting a question and answer session after racing on Saturday afternoon.

The top British 470 sailor said: "I cannot wait to get out on the water this weekend, I have heard the RS End of Seasons is a blast. It will be fantastic to try to improve upon my result from the RS200s with new crew and old family friend, Lisa Tait. Lisa and I use to race and train together when I first started sailing in the Optimist class, so it will be great to sail with her again!"

Luke will also present the awards at the prize giving on Sunday with fellow British Sailing Team member, Eilidh McIntyre who started sailing in an RS Feva. Eilidh is another member of Team Volvo who currently competes in the 470 women's class and will also be offering up her top tips for young sailors on Sunday afternoon.

This year is looking to have a strong turnout with 150 junior sailors competing in the RS Feva and Tera class and over 50 RS adult boats. There are some names to watch out for: at 8 years old, William James will be the youngest competitor on the water this weekend. William won his RS Tera at this year’s RYA Dinghy Show in the ‘design a sail competition’. Also in the RS Tera Class ¬ Henry Jameson; the Pro European Champion, and Roscoe Martin the Sports European Champion.

Six time Endeavour Trophy winner Nick Craig, will be racing in the RS400 Class with Toby Lewis; just back from winning the Endeavour Trophy for the 4th time himself. Competing in the RS800 class is current National Champion Roger Philips who will be sailing with Will Crocker.

The previous two years have seen ‘light & bright’ sailing conditions, but the forecast is showers and breeze for this weekend making more challenging conditions for the competitors.

There will also be a Volvo car display showcasing the latest models and experts on hand to provide those interested in information about the excellent RYA Affinity scheme, which offers great discounts on the latest Volvo range. Test drives will also be available over the weekend in a range of models, including a top of the range D5 R Design XC60.

All the ingredients are in place for an excellent Championships, to celebrate a fantastic season of sailing and to showcase all that RS sailing have achieved over the past twenty years.
