Volvo Ocean Race : Team Sanya is back in the water

Wednesday, 07 December 2011

A great day for the team today as their repaired boat hits the water after an amazing repair job. Rig goes in first thing tomorrow morning and they should be sailing by noon.

See below latest blog from Andres Soriano, MCM:

Today at 1800 Sanya Lan touched the water of the Cape Town Waterfront and she is happily tied up next to the team base. It is certainly a momentous day for the team after retiring from Leg One nearly a month ago. The boat builders from Greg Salthouse Marine have done a stunning job repairing the hull along with the incredible paint job by Ian Lovering and his team from Ashdown Marine, you cannot tell there was ever a problem.

The shore team have done an amazing job with the work list and have played an equally integral role in getting the boat back in the water. “It is fantastic and very exciting to have the boat back in the water,” commented Tiger who continued, “Now we have work to do!” The strong pulse that has surrounded the entire team has certainly not slowed down and will continue to beat harder till the start of Leg Two to Abu Dhabi.

The weekend events are slowly ramping up and a positive result for the team was the excellent performance by Dave Swete and Ryan Houston who won the model yacht-racing regatta this afternoon. The plan is to step the mast in the boat as soon as possible and then gather for a well-deserved team barbeque!

Look out here comes Sanya Lan!
