Wednesday, 26 January 2011

It is official: Yacht designer Jason Ker (Ker Design, Valencia/Spain) will start at the International Yacht Forum 2011 on February 12th at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce! Next to great names such as John Corby, Malcolm Runnalls, Mark Mills and Simon Rogers, thus another internationally well-known designer has been appointed as a speaker for the discussion panel of the forum: Yachts designed by Jason Ker have sailed first places in many important international races in 2010, namely the ORCi World Championship, the Rolex Commodores Cup or the Irish IRC Championships.

Other than yacht design, further essential subjects for a successful race season will be discussed: measuring, construction, sails and safety. In developing the event for yacht owners and people interested in sailing from all over Northern Europe, the organizers of the German Offshore Owners Association are aiming to offer a platform for the exchange of know-how beyond all borders. The German Sailing Federation is acknowledging this by taking patronage of the International Yacht Forum.

The constructors on site will provide answers to various questions concerning measuring subjects and will present european measuring formulas. The results of the following discussions will be sent to the associations and also published on the internet for everybody interested.

On the eve of the event, on February 11th, yachts nomiated for the "German Offshore Award" by the big Hamburg sailing clubs under management of the Hamburg Sailing Association will be honored at a senate reception in the Hamburg city hall at 5 pm, and the winner will be announced. The nominees are "Earlybird", "Y3K", "Mare", "Varuna", "Rockall", "Illbruck", "Patent3", "Hexe", Norddeutsche Vermögen Hamburg", "Beluga", "Tzu-Hang" and "Audi A1".

With the event another three weeks away, more than 200 participants from all over Europe have already confirmed their participation, but a few leftover forum tickets are still available. Admission tickets for the legendary closing event, a big party with live music in the venerable halls of the Chamber of Commerce may also still be ordered on the website of the organizers (www.iyfh.org).
