Furuno announced at February’s Miami International Boat Show that they would be releasing new software with the capability to display “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia Charts on their award winning NavNet 3D system. Following through on their promise, Furuno released version 2.05 software at the end of April, and the new “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia Charts are now available for purchase. NavNet 3D customers can download the software update for free from their web site at www.FurunoUSA.com, or they may talk to an authorized Furuno dealer to purchase an SD card with the upgrade already loaded. The new “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia Charts can also be purchased from a Jeppesen or Furuno USA dealer.
Furuno has released the new “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia vector charts for all of North & Central America, with the rest of the worldwide charts to be released as they are produced. The charts are available in two formats: Wide – Eight regional charts that cover all of the U.S., Canada and Central America/Caribbean; and MegaWide – Two large regions that cover all of North & Central America. The Wide charts have a MSRP price of $300, while the Megawide charts are $600 MSRP. All new NavNet 3D MFD’s now come preloaded with both the free NOAA Raster and Vector charts, as well as three Wide “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia Charts for the U.S. To use the “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia Charts, customers will need to purchase an unlock code from their Jeppesen or Furuno USA dealer. NavNet 3D is the only chart plotter on the market allowing users to choose from pre-loaded official NOAA raster and vector charts, or optional “C-MAP by Jeppesen” and “Datacore by Navionics” (outside U.S.) vector cartography. To top it off, all of these chart formats may be loaded and displayed on the same MFD! They can then be easily viewed in traditional 2D or incredible 3D, using NavNet 3D’s patented TimeZero technology.
In addition to creating the new “C-MAP by Jeppesen” Charts, MapMedia has been hard at work updating the free NOAA charts and data that are available for the US. The updates include the following enhancements:
NOAA Vector Charts Edition 4 (S57): Added a total of 86 new Vector Charts to the library (total includes new charts added for Edition 3) as well as many other chart updates.
3D Data Edition 3: Improved the accuracy of the 3D database for the USA (including Alaska) and added coverage for the Great Lakes and Rivers.
New Worldwide 3D Data: MapMedia 3D worldwide data providing depth shading and 3D Bathymetric views at a large range. This new data also improves the close range 3D view by filling “the horizon” with 3D data.
New High Resolution Satellite Pictures for the Great Lakes (USA) and the Rivers.
The new software, version 2.05, brings great enhancements to the NavNet 3D system’s overall vector chart rendering capability. So even if customers are not planning on running “C-MAP by Jeppesen” MapMedia Charts, they will still benefit from the free software upgrade. To make updating NavNet 3D MFD software even easier, Furuno has created instructional videos on how to download the software, create an update card, and update your system. The videos are located in the “Learning Center” section of their web site (www.FurunoUSA.com). Here is a list of software enhancements:
Spot soundings no longer use fractions & are outlined in white for improved visibility
Spot soundings change from black to red in dangerous areas
Various objects have been redesigned to reduce screen clutter
New chart color themes
International & S52 buoy icons/objects are now embedded and selectable
