Tuesday, 17 November 2009
In a ceremony this morning at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS), Palladium Technologies was awarded the prestigious DAME (Design Award METS) for its iSiMON wireless monitoring application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.
A panel of judges selected iSiMON from more than 50 finalist entries as the winner in the marine-related software category. Winners were announced at the opening breakfast for METS, which was held in the Amsterdam RAI Convention Center.
iSiMON is a wireless application created for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The app provides the captain and crew direct remote viewing of its engines, generators, tanks, bilge levels, batteries, ship’s AC Bus and more. In addition, all alarms from the SiMON monitoring system appear on the iPhone and iPod Touch through instant notifications. Not only will the visual alarm notification occur, but an audible siren will sound on the iPod Touch and the device will vibrate. Control functionality has also been added so that pressing a button on the touch screen allows for remote control over pumps, lights and other ship functions.
Originally introduced by Palladium Technologies in 1991 and continually improved through the years, SiMON is a fully integrated monitoring and controls system for yachts that encompasses all aspects of megayacht management and control, including broadband Internet access, monitoring and alarm systems, ship security systems, entertainment systems and concierge services.
“iSiMON is the first and only non-Web-based monitoring application for yachts designed for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices with advanced technological features,” said Mike Blake, president of Palladium Technologies. “A rich graphic menu provides functionality in both portrait and landscape modes along with the ability to effortlessly scroll through the screens. Many new displays and control views have been recently added to iSiMON, even further extending its capabilities. The iSiMON application is also available as a download at Apple’s iTunes Store.”
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by our peers and win the marine software category award this year,” said Blake. “It lets us know, as a company, our commitment to forward-thinking development for our iSiMON product line and collaborating with companies like Apple break new ground in monitoring and control for modern megayachts.”
First held in 1991, the DAME Award is now recognized as the world’s leading design competition for new marine equipment and accessories. The DAME prize is awarded annually by an independent panel of judges for the best designed products introduced at METS. The jury also usually names a winner for each category and gives “special mentions” at its discretion. Apart from rewarding design, the jury can decide to award a certificate for “most innovative product” and/or – new this year – “most ECO-friendly product.”
Palladium Technologies’ stand is located in the Superyacht Pavilion at METS.
