An important step forward has been taken by two major players in the marine, oil and gas industries which will provide enhanced competitive and flexible solutions to the offshore industry. Building upon the proven strengths of both companies, Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries and the Harris Pye Group have signed a co-operation agreement to form an integrated project team offering design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning services.

“This is a true win:win situation for our companies,” explains Mark Prendergast, Harris Pye’s Group Managing Director. “We will be pooling our great strengths to the advantage of clients in the marine and offshore oil and gas industries. Both companies are very much looking forward to working in tandem, but also retain their independence.”

The declaration of intent, signed by the two companies, sees them planning to work together in a non-exclusive framework, providing services for the refurbishment, repair, upgrade, conversion and life extension of ships and offshore assets.

As Chief Executive of Harland and Wolff, Robert J Cooper explains: “All the services will be offered on the basis that the highest standards of the two companies are maintained. Quality and safety are of paramount importance. Both companies will be capitalising on their strengths, which means that each project will be assessed on its individual merits, resulting in the role of Prime Contractor being assumed on a case-by-case basis. The framework facilitates expansion in these market sectors and will compliment the ongoing growth H&W are experiencing in other sectors.”

Harland and Wolff will provide design, fabrication, shipyard facilities, project management and manpower for the execution of elements of all projects undertaken by the two companies.  Harris Pye Group’s role will be to provide their installation project team to identify and provide, where necessary, all associated materials, tooling, manpower, supervision and project management and are to control this process in conjunction with Harland and Wolff and client’s project teams.

“Harris Pye will also be responsible for the provision of full estimation services for all aspects of the contract within our remit and services; for providing fully managed labour teams to undertake agreed work scopes; and to provide Quality Assurance and Control including materials traceability,” explains Mark Prendergast. “We will also provide Health & Safety management to OHSAS 18001 standards.”
