UK. Tom Cunliffe and Alan Watson host Raymarine's roadshows

Thursday, 03 April 2008

The success of the Raymarine roadshows depends heavily on the informative and helpful advice provided by its two key presenters, Alan Watson and Tom Cunliffe.

Tom Cunliffe is one of Britain's leading writers and speakers on seafaring, seamanship and navigation. His after dinner speech is entitled “Finding your position without losing your soul” and takes a humour-packed and irreverent look at how electronics have changed our lives on the water.

He is a columnist for Yachting Monthly, Yachting World and SAIL magazine (US), as well as being the author of 20 published books.   He is a senior Yachtmaster Examiner and has been a consultant for the governing body of sailing in the United States.

Tom Cunliffe is well-known for his television appearances on BBC1's Island Race, a series of eight prime-time documentary programmes made as he sailed round Britain with John McCarthy, the Beirut hostage. He also presents the popular series Boat Yard, currently showing on Discovery Channel. In addition to making commentaries for films on classic and super yachts , he has written and presented the RYA chart-plotter tutorial and has published a DVD about electronic navigation.

Alan Watson has proved to be a popular roadshow host, and is a familiar face at many of the Raymarine training sessions held around the country.  With more than 35 years experience, Alan trained and served as a Merchant Navy Electronics Officer.  He is an RYA instructor for radio and diesel engines, and holds a Board of Trade Certificate for the maintenance of radar.  During his time in the Navy, Alan installed, maintained and operated radars on a variety of ships from large containers and super tankers through to small coastal vessels.

Tom and Alan will be hosting the Raymarine Roadshows taking place in Northumberland on 19 April and Guernsey on 26 April.
