Mid-way point in the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship Area Finals.

Tuesday, 04 July 2017

The 2017 Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship Area Finals have now reached the mid-way point and the action has been fast and furious.

The very best young RIB drivers have been demonstrating just how skilled they are on the throttle as they take on the testing championship course to secure their spot at the National Final at The Yachtmarket.com Southampton Boat Show in September.

In RIBs that can hit speeds of up to 35mph, each competitor has to master the slalom, stop exercise, 360O reverse around a buoy manoeuvre, followed by a sprint to the finish, in a race against the clock to secure the best time.  “The speed and precision in which these youngsters get around what is pretty testing course is quite phenomenal”, commented Andrew Norton, Powerboat Projects Manager and Event Director.

With lap times of just one or two minutes and just seconds splitting many of the Area Champions it’s already shaping up to be quite a contest at the National Final.
