Michael Schmidt Yachtbau in Germany has appointed Johannes Malzahn as the yard’s new managing director with full responsibility for all day-to-day business. The company owner Michael Schmidt will stay on as a supervisor and adviser to the management team, as well as long-term investor.

While Michael Schmidt Yachtbau (MSY) may have started almost as a hobby for Mi-chael Schmidt, it has quickly developed into a major player in the construction of fast-cruising sailing boats in the twenty-to-thirty-metre range. Current developments and a plethora of new orders have now led the company to implement a reorganisation de-signed to future-proof its growth ambitions.

MSY’s vision rests upon the twin pillars of major investments in a new construction facility (completed late last year) and an energetic new team. In addition to Johannes Malzahn, a passionate sailor with a rich personal experience of boatbuilding, the management counts among its ranks purchasing manager Andreas Bock, a success-ful racer on both water and ice, and marketing & sales director Tijl Hetterschijt, an-other keen yachtsman with lots of long-distance cruising experience. Plus Luca Giammattei as production manager with his long lasting expertise in building large custom sailing yachts
