Queenslandís largest display of multihulls to thrill at SCIBS 2017

Monday, 27 February 2017

Catering to the bluewater cruising, performance, charter and liveaboard buyers, multihulls are back in numbers at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, playing host to the largest display of multihulls in Queensland from May 25 to 28.

Boasting stability, volume and ease of use, multihulls have seen a rapid surge in popularity across demographics, ticking boxes for sailing and powerboat devotees.

Leading brands Multihull Central, Multihull Solutions, The Multihull Group (TMG), Leopard Catamarans, Ensign Boat Brokers and Dream Yacht Sales will display the latest models to inspire the sail enthusiast, including long-range cruisers and powercats.

SCIBS sales and exhibition manager Dominic O’Brien said an ideal mix of the latest sail and power multihulls have already joined the ocean’s finest.

“The market is on the rise across Australia with the Gold Coast following this trend,” Mr O’Brien said.

“We have fielded regular enquiries from prospective interstate buyers who come to SCIBS specifically to see the current batch of cats. The Gold Coast is after all, the gateway to the Reef and Whitsundays.

“Some are enthusiasts, others new to boating, and they say they intend to travel from interstate because they’re planning to buy a cat and cruise the Pacific Islands, planning their Queensland charter, or want to buy a boat and enter it into charter.

“These beautiful vessels offer boaties plenty of space and volume, along with loads of innovative interiors and technology on board. They are perfect for entertaining and an ideal lifestyle platform.”

From Multihull Central comes the world launch of the new Seawind 1260, which features an all-new interior design, modern exterior styling and modular cockpit lounge and dining table.

Multihull Central director Brent Vaughan said multihulls appeal to a very broad audience.

“Some people are newcomers to boating, or they might be returning after many years’ absence and they see multihulls as the accessible, versatile option,” Mr Vaughan said.

“We will also have the Seawind 1160 LITE LTD, which features a beautiful lightweight timber interior and leather lounge.”

The tremendously popular Aquila 44 power cat will also be making an appearance at SCIBS, showing off its new interior styling.

“In just 12 months we have launched four new Aquila 44s in Australia, including one in charter in the Whitsundays which is well booked and appeals to families, groups and couples,” he said.

Multihull Solutions will be showcasing three of the world’s most popular power and sail catamarans this year, plus a ‘surprise’ that will thrill multihull fans.

Managing director Mark Elkington said SCIBS has been chosen as the stage for the Oceanic premiere of the stunning Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 Evolution sailing catamaran.

“The Helia 44 will complement the Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 sailing catamaran and the impressive MY37 by Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts,” Mr Elkington said.

“These vessels appeal to power enthusiasts who appreciate outstanding fuel economy and offshore performance.”

Another exciting launch for Multihull Solutions is the much-anticipated Lagoon 630 MY – an Australian premiere which has already created a buzz in the market.

The Multihull Group (TMG), now based at Coomera, will showcase this flagship model, which boasts a catalogue of unique features, creating an on-water residence where serenity meets luxury.

TMG managing director John Cowpe said the 630 MY is based on the Lagoon 620 sailing catamaran – a tried-and-tested platform for open-ocean cruising.

“With a 3200 litre standard fuel capacity, this is a true bluewater passage maker with accommodation and equipment that makes living aboard safe and elegant,” Mr Cowpe said.

“It will be open for inspection only by invitation or appointment, so there’s opportunity for people to book ahead and get on board.”

Also at the TMG display will be the new Lagoon 42 and the 450 Sports Top.

“SCIBS has a great vibe and consistently good numbers. For us, Lagoon is a brand loved by Queenslanders and this is a great opportunity to display the very latest models,” he said.

Ensign Boat Brokers are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the first Nautitech Open 40 under the Bavaria branding.

The French-built brand is known the world over for its quality and performance capabilities, while the impeccable design and construction of the interiors is supplied by Bavaria’s German craftsmen, resulting in the best of both.

Ensign managing director Tony Ross said the Open 40 is a well-regarded performance cat, receiving rave reviews on charter in the Whitsundays.

“Living and socialising is on one level, it’s very spacious and appeals to sailors for its pace and space,” Mr Ross said.

“You can be sailing it single-handed and your guests don’t even notice because operations are electric or remote, and all overhead.

“The Open 40 is great fun and is very comfortable and smooth for anyone on board.”

Dream Yacht Sales plan to unveil its brand-new Bali 4.3 at SCIBS, fully optioned and showing off the loft concept of this exceptional model that’s already extremely popular with the charter market.

Director Christophe Vanek said the Bali 4.3 has hit the mark with private owners, as well as the charter market.

“The three boats in the Whitsundays are booked solid,” Mr Vanek said.

“They are ideal for cruising the tropical seas, completely opening up, with a real connection to the sea and plenty of room for the whole family. You barely need the AC on board there is so much air-flow!”

The flybridge too is an additional living space, adding to the ease of manoeuvrability and vision.
