New Sea Ray® SLX 400, "The Entailer”, wins 2017 Miami Boat Show Innovation Award

Sea Ray’s newest luxury day boat, the SLX 400, has received a prestigious Innovation Award from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). The SLX 400, which debuted in January, was awarded in the Cuddy Cabin & Bowrider Boats category. Winners were announced on Friday, February 17, during the NMMA’s annual Innovation Breakfast.
“We are honored to be recognized for innovation by the NMMA,” said Brad Anderson, Sea Ray president and general manager of sport boats and sport cruisers. “Winning this award is a testament to Sea Ray’s bold vision for boating, a vision the SLX 400 brings to life. It truly is ‘the Entertainer,’ an ideal entertaining vessel that supports a full range of on-water activities.”
The SLX 400 beautifully allocates space to make use of the entire hull and deck. From cockpit to bow, everything is on one level, providing a natural flow throughout. Chief among its many standout features is the innovative fold-down patio wing: At the touch of a button, the starboard coaming folds down, opening up 270-degree views from the transom sunpad and providing a massive interaction area with the water. The transom backrest also swings open.
Further, the bow social zone accommodates a crowd with ease. A row of forward touring seats features arm rests and convenient cupholders, with additional forward benches that surround a stylish bow table, which also converts into a sunpad. A bow sunshade stretches over this zone too, providing additional shade.
Storage is another area in which the SLX 400 leads the pack. On the transom, a hatch opens to reveal fully enclosed storage space for two stand-up paddleboards. The optional cockpit television stores in the coaming when not in use. And in the cockpit’s well-appointed wet bar, ample storage houses a cooler, utensils, a refrigerator and more. There’s almost nothing a boater can bring onboard that the SLX 400 can’t store.
On the technology front, the SLX 400 features Digital Switching using the EmpirBus system, via a special interface developed with Raymarine®. This allows for control of the boat’s systems from an iPad. Meanwhile Axius® joystick control, proprietary Quiet Ride™ technology, and Dynamic Running Surface™ all work together to provide effortless docking and a smooth, stable, quiet ride.
Premium comforts extend to the cabin as well. In the aft section, a queen-sized bed allows for overnighting. The forward bunk converts from a social gathering area to a wide bed to sleep additional passengers. An elegant enclosed head ensures comfort during extended outings. And, true to its SLX name, fit & finish are superior.
“The Innovation Award affirms that we are pushing the envelope for all-day boating comfort, performance and capability,” said Anderson. “The SLX 400 exemplifies Sea Ray’s formula for Orchestrated Excellence. We’re thrilled to see it receive this honor.”
The Innovation Awards program, organized by the NMMA and judged by Boating Writers International (BWI), recognizes products that best meet criteria including innovative distinction from other products currently being manufactured; benefit to the marine industry and/or consumer; practicality; and cost-effectiveness. The judging committee is comprised of BWI members who perform product testing throughout the year and have specific expertise in marine products.
The SLX 400 will be on display at the Miami International Boat Show (Virginia Key In-Water, Ramp 7 - Slips 710-728) from February 16–20, 2017, with additional appearances throughout the 2017 boat show season. For more information, please visit searay.com.
