Brightlingsea, Essex, UK - Brightlingsea Harbour Commissioners (BHC) invite members of the media to observe a Tier 2 Oil Spill Incident Management Exercise, which will take place in Brightlingsea Harbour on Tuesday 9th February 2016.

This exercise has been planned to test the capability and processes for response to a hydrocarbon (fuel oil) spill which occurs due to a ruptured fuel tank in a stranded commercial vessel. The scenario is designed to exercise the emergency response procedures and oil spill contingency plans in place for Brightlingsea Harbour. It will also test the incident management structure in place and the procedures/cooperation between BHC and other external parties that will be involved in a real life oil spill incident and oil spill clean-up in the area.

Organisations invited to take part in the exercise include Adler & Allan Ltd Marine Response Team (BHC's spill management partner), the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Marine Management Organisation, the Environment Agency, the emergency services, Tendring District Council, Essex County Council, Kent and Essex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority, Natural England and Dong Energy.

The exercise will take place off Brightlingsea Hard and will be fully visible from the Media Centre, located at the Colne Yacht Club, Waterside, Brightlingsea. Representatives of the media are invited to observe the exercise which will commence at 10.00 and conclude by 13.30. The Media Centre will open from 09.00 and members of the press will be briefed on proceedings prior to commencement of the exercise. A limited number of spaces will be available by prior booking for photographers and television crews wishing to go afloat to cover the event.

Members of the media wishing to attend the exercise or requiring additional information should contact BHC Media Officer Fiona Brown on [email protected] or 07711 718470.
