As part of the relationship with the marine research-focused nonprofit, SeaKeepers, scientists will maintain an onsite presence at the development’s property in the Ocean-side town of Golfito, Costa Rica
The facilitation and subsequent support of pivotal marine biology research is being buoyed in Costa Rica by a unique partnership that’s unfolding along the country’s Southern Pacific Coast.
Golfito Marina Village and Resort -- a new 40-acre luxury development and Blue-flag marina being built in the ocean-side town of Golfito -- is proud to announce its support of The International SeaKeepers Society, a not-for-profit organization, which focuses on the health of the world’s oceans and climate.
As part of the burgeoning relationship, Golfito Marina Village & Resort will supplement the shipment of a SeaKeepers “wet lab” container in the weeks ahead from the SeaKeepers headquarters in Miami, Florida to Golfito, Costa Rica. Once in place on the development’s property, a team of researchers and scientists from the University of Florida will begin using the 40-foot lab to conduct important biodiversity research. Their studies will include a range of endeavors, including the sampling of small marine species, the sequencing of DNA genomes, and to determine what key findings can be gleaned for pharmaceutical needs.
“We are beyond thrilled to announce the culmination of this partnership and to welcome the SeaKeepers team to our development,” added Noam Schwartz of Hacienda El Dorado S.A., developer of Golfito Marina Village and Resort. “This long-term relationship will undoubtedly yield vital discoveries about our oceans as well as how to protect them.”
“This part of the world is a rare jewel…rich in diversity and teeming with species and microorganisms to be studied,” said Richard Snow, President & CEO of The International SeaKeepers Society. “To have full access to not only the distinctive ecological surroundings of Golfito Marina Village and Resort, but to be able to travel to the nearby Galapagos Islands and Pacific Ocean will be an invaluable asset to our research teams, moving forward.”
In addition to facilitating the onsite presence of The International SeaKeepers Society, Golfito Marina Village and Resort has been a staunch supporter of the organization’s annual signature event. This year Golfito was a top-tier sponsor of the Bal de La Mer & Founders’ Dinner on November 5 in Fort Lauderdale, during which renowned oceanographic explorer, conservationist, and documentary filmmaker, Fabien Cousteau, was honored. The partnership between Golfito Marina Village and Resort and SeaKeepers was spotlighted as part of the evening program.
