Boat builder news:

Australia’s largest luxury cruiser manufacturer, Riviera, reaches a major milestone this week with the completion and hand over of its 4,000th vessel.

Townsville couple Steven and Tania James are the lucky owners and took possession of the gleaming new Riviera M400 Sport Cruiser at the company’s headquarters at Coomera on Queensland’s Gold Coast on Friday.

Riviera CEO Wes Moxey said reaching the 4,000 mark was a major achievement for the company.

“The company was founded 25 years ago with a handful of staff,” said Mr Moxey. “It has been a process of strong and steady growth and now we are building around 380 boats every year and we are ranked among the top ten luxury boat buildings in the world.

“We have Rivieras all over the world so it is great to see that the 4000th boat is going to stay in Queensland and will be enjoyed by local boating enthusiasts,” he said.

Steven and Tania James run a glass tinting business in Townsville and have been keen boaties for about three years.

A pilot himself and from a family where his father and brother also fly, Steven says his wife Tania said to him three years ago “go and buy a plane, a Porsche or a boat.”

“The plane and the Porsche are a bit selfish so I thought about a boat because it was something that Tania and I and could share and enjoy with our friends,” he said.

After some near disastrous events involving another brand, Steven found his way to Riviera, encouraged by boat owning friends.

“I was about to give up on boating when our friends said to go to Riviera. So we bought a Riviera 37 flybridge.

“The finish, build quality and customer care right through from pre-sales to after sales at Riviera is first class,” said Steven. “We really enjoyed the boat. We really began to understand the pleasure of boating that our friends had talked about.

“However, we love sharing with our friends and entertaining and the flybridge layout tended to split the party with the boys congregating on the flybridge and the girls settling in down stairs. So we looked at the M400 Sport Cruiser.

“It is a superb boat. Everyone, even the driver, can be on the one level so it’s a great entertainer. And the overall finish is absolutely top class, just like the flybridge boat.”

Steven and Tania enjoy passage-making as well as day trips with friends. Their boat, called “Tintacles”, will be used to cruise the Whitsundays and travel from Townsville to Hinchinbrook.

Their original 37 flybridge is now the corporate boat for the Hilton Hotel in the Maldives and “Tintacles” will be berthed in Townsville.

Steven said his glass tinting business covers homes, cars and offices with one division servicing trade only and the other retail.
