Awards news:

The Simrad WR20 RemoteCommander has received a special mention in the highly regarded Marine Electronics category of the DAME Awards at METS 2006.

"We are delighted that the development effort that went in to make WR20 such a flexible tool has been recognised by the DAME judges," comments Simon Nolan, Product Manager of the Simrad WR20. "This special mention reflects not only the technology and design values inherent in WR20, but also the dedication of the team and the affect it has on navigation, safety and communication."

The WR20 is a unique Wireless Remote that puts complete control in the palm of your hand. It is capable of controlling and displaying data from all Simrad SimNet networked products, including VHF Radios, NavStations, Autopilots and Instruments.

The wealth of functionality includes being able to steer the boat from anywhere onboard, change views on NavStation and instrument displays and full MOB control.

Taking the best elements of modern mobile phone design, the system is comfortable to handle and has been designed with clarity and ease of use at its core.

The hierarchical menu enables access and control of all key functions in a SimNet network with a minimum of button presses. The keypad itself is responsive and comfortable, featuring only 6 keys and a circular NavPad to ensure simplicity of operation. The standalone, secure MOB keys add extra safety functionality.

A simple keypad lock means it cannot be operated accidentally. The display/menu is fully customisable, providing complete control of whatever data you want to view. It also features a white backlight for day use and red for night use.

In addition to offering full functionality of plotter, radar, autopilot and instruments, the WR20 acts as a remote communication hub, by working as a wireless handset for the RS80 series of VHF radiotelephones. It provides full control of the VHF and Intercom facilities as well as the voice link and can also operate as a Bluetooth headset for mobile phones.

The motivation behind WR20 is to provide more freedom for boaters. Safety has also played a key role in the concept and design of WR20. Having the entire suite of electronics, basically in the palm of your hands means that any dangerous situations can be addressed immediately from anywhere onboard, without having to be near the instruments themselves.
