Coastguard news:
At twenty minutes to three this morning, Dover Coastguard were alerted by the Captain of the P & O cross channel ferry 'Pride of Kent' that he had two passengers missing. The two passengers are from a coach party on the ferry who did not report to disembark.
The vessel's crew immediately searched the ship. They did not find anyone, so they searched again for a second time. The Captain then contacted Dover Coastguard reporting two passengers missing. Dover Coastguard then contacted the French authorities at Cape Gris Nez.
The British and French authorities are now involved in a search for these two passengers in a very large search area.
Search and Rescue units involved in this search are the Coastguard Tug 'Anglian Monarch' coastguard spotter plane 'Echo November' Dover RNLI lifeboat, Calais and Boulogne lifeboats, two French helicopters and a French Navy Frigate.
The weather on scene is Westerly Force 6, good visibility with a moderate sea and it is dry.
Kaimes Beasely, Watch Officer, Dover Coastguard said: "In a joint operation with the French we are conducting a search for these two missing passengers in a very large area. At this time of year the water temperature is very cold, but we always remain hopeful." |
