Trade show news:

Also coming to METS: Lewmar’s low-cost, completely flush deck hatch designed for mounting in molded deck recesses on boats. By reinventing the way a hatch is assembled, Lewmar is able to offer high volume boat builders superyacht styling at a fraction of the price.

The attachment of the acrylic on top of the frame rather than underneath enables this “no-frame” look to be achieved. The acrylic overhangs the frame and creates an uninterrupted meeting of the hatch lid with the fiberglass reinforced plastic deck. New techniques for bonding the frame to the acrylic have been developed to offer a high visual quality finish.

Unlike an aftermarket hatch, the Flush Hatch is only suitable for installation on new boats where deck recesses are custom molded by the OEM.

The idea for the hatch evolved over a period of months, where prototypes were put together to gather feedback from key professionals. The Flush Hatch is the result of a significant investment in a new extrusion for the frame, new fixing techniques for the acrylic, and production engineering within Lewmar to keep the price as competitive as possible. This new range is available in Lewmar's standard sizes 10, 44 and 60, and uses existing handle and hinge components. Lewmar’s popular range of fly screens also fit these hatches.

Two large OEM boat builders are already taking shipment of the Flush Hatch and a further ten OEM’s are currently looking to integrate the hatch in new boat designs. All hatches are made in Lewmar’s manufacturing headquarters in Havant, Hants., U.K. Come see it at METS 2006.
