Waterways news:

On the evening of Monday 6th November it was decided in the House of Commons that all Westminster Hall debates for Wednesday 8th November will be cancelled. This is because of prorogation of the House; the current parliamentary session is about to come an end and the House will soon rise until the Queen’s Speech on Wednesday 15th November.

IWA express great regret that the Adjournment Debate about the "Impact of grant reduction on the work of British Waterways", secured by Sir Peter Soulsby MP, will now not place on Wednesday 8th November. IWA will be urging MPs to re-apply for the debate next parliamentary session and to express the concerns of all waterway users again through Early Day Motions and continued questioning of Ministers. IWA Chairman John Fletcher commented "This is a huge disappointment, however the campaigning by all waterway users against the funding cuts is building momentum. In the next session of Parliament we hope the Speaker will give preference to those whose debates have been cancelled; IWA have been contacted by many MPs who want to speak out about the potentially devastating impact of the funding cuts on their constituency's waterways."
