Lionale Lemonchois, on Gitana XI has just 215 miles to race to the Route du Rhum finish and is exactly 200 miles ahead of second place man, Patrick Bidegorry on Banque Polpulaire. Behind the two leaders two battles for places are taking place.

Despite Géant’s floater leak, which means he has to frequently pump it our, Michel Desjoyeaux is doing all he can to retake third place from Thomas Coville, who is just 10 miles ahead. Further back, despite a missing rudder on Groupama 2, Franck Cammas is charging along at almost 20 knots and could be set to take 5th place from the slower moving Yves Bourgnon, on Brossard, who having failed to find hoped for wind in the south, has had to gybe to get back on track, and is only making 15 knots at present.
