Company news:

Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ: INGR) has announced that Alcoa, the world’s largest producer of alumina, is standardizing on Intergraph’s SmartPlant Foundation solution to manage the availability, integrity and accuracy of global refinery plant engineering information.

SmartPlant Foundation will enable work sharing and collaboration among Alcoa's nine refineries around the world - Western Australian and Spanish refinery operations are already live. During the balance of 2006 and in 2007 Alcoa will deploy the technology at its remaining refineries around the globe to manage and share its engineering data and integrate this information with other enterprise business and operational systems.

Standardizing global refinery plant engineering information will enable Alcoa to integrate numerous applications used to create, capture and maintain information and best practices throughout their refineries life cycles, regardless of changes in plants and resources.

“Alcoa recognizes the importance of comprehensive and effective collaboration not only between our global refineries, but also between our organization and its engineering service providers,” said Craig Walkemeyer, vice president, Engineering, Alcoa Global Primary Products Growth. “This solution breaks down international and organizational barriers, allowing us to increase our productivity through greater efficiencies among our internal and external engineering teams.”

“Intergraph understands the value of promoting global information sharing between stakeholders including employees, contractors and suppliers,” said Gerhard Sallinger, president, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine. “Through the use of SmartPlant Foundation, Alcoa refineries across the world can benefit from sharing high quality and consistent engineering data. We are pleased that Alcoa has recognized Intergraph’s world-class capabilities and solutions and selected us as the standard for its global refinery engineering information management.”

SmartPlant Foundation is being provided to Alcoa under a Software as a Service (SaaS) agreement. With SaaS, Intergraph is remotely hosting SmartPlant Foundation and will manage much of the day-to-day administration for Alcoa. Additionally, Intergraph is undertaking the configuration and global rollout, effectively providing Alcoa with a one-stop shop. SaaS is an excellent way for companies to outsource part or all aspects of their information technology needs and is a growing part of Intergraph’s business.
