Patianne Verburgh:

Dean Watson Auto Sales Ltd. of Uxbridge, Ontario today announced its support of Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges and skipper, Derek Hatfield as he sets his sights to compete in the Vendee Globe 2008 global sailboat race. Dean Watson Auto Sales Ltd. has provided financial support to the Spirit of Canada Team in the purchase of a new Dodge Grand Caravan to help prepare for the most gruelling sporting event ever.

Derek Hatfield commented: "Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges is proud to be partnered with Dean Watson Auto Sales Ltd. Chuck Watson has been a keen supporter of Spirit of Canada for a long time now and he continues this support with a great vehicle. The original "Spirit Mobile" was a 1997 Dodge Caravan and we put over 430,000 kilometers on it during the past Open 40 campaign. It is a great vehicle and when I went looking for a new van for the Open 60 project, I did not hesitate to choose a new Dodge Caravan".

About Vendee Globe

In theory, the Vendée Globe is an utterly simple affair. Its fundamental principles come down to a few sentences, compared to which even the roughest logbook would seem sophisticated. A sailing race around the world, solo, non stop and without assistance. That’s it. In theory at least, because beyond these words start great stories.

Official supplier of legends since 1989, this race has impressed the world to the point where even the strongest superlatives seem unable to define it. The sea also has its mythical summit, created 15 years ago by a sailor, two time winner of the BOC Challenge, who refused to rest on his laurels.

On November 9th 2008, 27 or more navigators will set sail aboard their monohulls, heading towards the three great capes, marking the southern tips of the African continent, Australia and America. The Vendée Globe will start, for the 6th time, from the harbour of Les Sables d’Olonne in France, where it was born. And as far as the rest of the story is concerned… well, it’s up to the sailors themselves now.
