Product news:
Mercury Marine introduces SmartTowTM, a precise and easy-to-use control system boat drivers can program to achieve smooth and consistent launch and cruise control for water sport activities.
SmartTow consists of an rpm-based set-point control and the Mercury- patented Launch Control System. The Launch Control System consists of five pre-set launch profiles designed to meet different water sports needs, from tubing to wakeboarding to slalom skiing.
Drivers simply select a launch profile for out-of-the-hole intensity, enter an rpm set point based on the rider's desired pull speed and move the throttle to wide-open. SmartTow does the rest.
To achieve this effective level of control, SmartTow makes thousands of engine calculations per second and adjusts accordingly, something even the best drivers can't do.
"SmartTow continues to expand Mercury's ability to create digital control features that make boating easier," said Tom Burkard, general manager of control and rigging systems. "A novice driver can become an expert in the one minute it takes to learn how to operate the settings on the gauge and drop the hammer."
SmartTow was designed to integrate with existing Mercury SmartCraft technology and is available now for 22 different sterndrive and outboard engine models equipped with Mercury Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS) and the SmartCraft 2007 edition. SmartCraft is Mercury's exclusive control-area- network-based system that provides boaters an unprecedented level of information about their boats.
As with all SmartCraft products, SmartTow has been subjected to brutal testing and has undergone thousands of hours of validation, far exceeding the marine industry norm for electronics. |
