Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen and Commander Sector Long Island Sound Captain Peter Boynton gathered together to break ground signifying the construction the new command building for Sector Long Island Sound

The Commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Thad Allen presided over the ground breaking ceremony on Friday at the Coast Guard’s Long Island Sound headquarters, 120 Woodward Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut.

The ground breaking ceremony for a $10 million command building including a state of the art command center will provide command and control for all Coast Guard activities in Long Island Sound, as well as the south shore and offshore waters of Long Island.

The Coast Guard’s Facilities Design and Construction Center Atlantic has contracted with, Ames and Whitaker Architects of Waterbury, CT to design the new building and Diversified Technology Consultants of North Haven, CT to build new facility, which is scheduled to be occupied in the summer of 2008, will also serve as a multi-agency command post for special events and emergencies in the region.
