Helen Blythe:
Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, has attended a fundraising event for the Royal Yachting Association charity, Sailability, of which she is patron.
Some of the best known faces from the marine, industry, finance and motor-racing worlds, as well as Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson, joined the royal guest of honour at a black tie dinner at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and helped to raise more than £20,000. The guests also made donations to a Wish List for the charity, with gifts ranging from basic safety equipment to specialised lifting hoists.
During the evening, HRH The Princess Royal delivered a heart-felt speech on the importance of the charity's work in increasing the number of sailors with disabilities getting onto the water.
As well as donating the venue, the Royal Yacht Squadron made the racing platform available for guests to enjoy a champagne reception. Red Funnel Ferries, National Boat Shows and All Seasons Florists also supported the event.
"Partnerships are essential for our development and we greatly value corporate support, not only through financial contributions but also by donating products, equipment and time," Pat Dodd, a Trustee of the charity and event organiser, said. "This event got so many people onboard for the future and the wonderful amount of money raised will go directly to help clubs, individuals and families." |
