Awards news:
The 46.30-metre sailing yacht Lulworth has been awarded the 2006 La Belle Classe Prize by the Yacht Club de Monaco in a glittering ceremony in St. Tropez. This completed a wonderful summer for the world’s largest gaff-rigged cutter, which has successfully competed in the classic regattas at Argentario, Imperia, Cannes and St Tropez. Originally launched in 1920, Lulworth’s meticulous five year restoration was completed in Italy in February 2006.
This latest award confirms Lulworth’s billing as the most authentic restoration of the modern era. The annual La Belle Classe Prize is designed to protect and value our shared maritime heritage and other nominees for the 2006 award were Romola (1903) and Cotton Blossom II (1924). President of the jury, the explorer Jean-Louis Etienne, described Lulworth as: "The best of the sailing world. She is a dream that came from the banks of the Hamble River and a testimony to the unlimited passion of those who brought her back to life. Being onboard Lulworth was an incredible sailing experience." |
