Waterways news:

British Waterways chiefs will be arriving at the public corporation’s Annual Meeting in style this year on a traditional narrow boat at the heart of Birmingham’s regenerated canal network.

Chairman Tony Hales and Chief Executive Robin Evans will take the opportunity to use the transport network they work passionately to support as they arrive at Cambrian Wharf in Birmingham City Centre.

The area was the first in Birmingham to be regenerated in the 1970s and its success kick-started development throughout the region, including the multi-million pound showcase Brindleyplace redevelopment.

The annual meeting will hear that British Waterways and its partners are currently involved in more than Ł6bn of waterside regeneration across the UK. The annual meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the future of the 2,200 mile canal network across the country.
