Il Presidente Della FIV Gaibisso al briefing Barcolana

The owners/skippers briefing of the 38th Barcolana took place in the afternoon at the Stazione Marittima. Sergio Gaibisso, president of the Italian Sailing Federation (Fiv), left the Genoa Boat Show not to miss the appointment with the Autumn Cup. It's a great pleasure to welcome official sailing representatives in this Triestine event. Next to him was Fiv honorary president Carlo Rolandi who during Barcolana Images held last night at Teatro Miela remembered his sailing mate Tino Straulino. They raced together in World Sailing Championships and in one Olympic Games edition.

Russell Coutts vince l’Alfa Spider Match Race

Russel Coutts team is the winner of the Alfa Spider Match Cup dominating in the second and third races, after Mascalzone Latino beat New Zealander America's cup champion in the first match-race of the grand finale.

Dead calm conditions did not allow the Racing Committee to set another race course after 16.15 to finish the best 5 match-race. In accordance with Sailing Instructions victory goes to Omega Team.

Croatian team Cro-A-Sail is third beating 2-1 Japanese Beecom, able to win the first race of the final for third and fourth places.

"Four days of exciting races" - said Russel Coutts after the Alfa Spider Match Cup final event. "I'm very happy because this race formula is well structured and fun, with a good bilance between fleet racing and match-racing. A perfect occasion to race very close to the spactators - said Coutts - next time we'll come even closer to shore. Anyway it has been a perfect event to test the boats in view of the RC44 Circuit we are planning for 2007".

Crixhton: “Great support from the public”

"As usual we got ready for this competition with our particular attention and precision - said Neville Crichton, owner and skipper of Alfa Romeo 2, at the end of today's Barcolana warm-up, the typical test of the race course which takes place the day before the regatta. "We checked manoeuvres and boat - said Crichton - during a long training day which enabled us study the race course and find the best way to start tomorrow. There wasn't enough wind today so we could find ourselves in a completely different condition tomorrow. But this is part of the race - said Alfa Romeo 2 skipper - every sailor has to be ready to face rapidly changing conditions. The boat is very fast and we have to be very quick in our decisions. This is one of the secrets to do a great performance in the race, it's very important for us and for the public which is strongly supporting our team".

Bondini: “Our aim is to win, our rival is Alfa Romeo2”

"The idea of bringing Maximus-Alikč at the Barcolana was born last winter in Genoa - explained skipper Lorenzo Bodini - when I met Neo Zealander boat owner Charles Brown, who understood immediately the importance, prestige and beauty of the Barcolana and letting us participate with his boat".

"Now, after a week of training in the Gulf of Trieste - continued Bodini - we are now familiar with the boat which is really fast and has great technology such as canting keel and rotating mast allowing us to optimize sailing and sails setting according to weather conditions during the race. The aim tomorrow is to win - said Bodini - and rival number one is clearly Alfa Romeo 2, we are ready to challenge on the race course".

Barcolana Classic: Sorella, Aria and Delfino are the three stars of the event:

The beautiful historic boats sailing in the Gulf of Trieste remind us that Barcolana is also seafaring tradition. The first edition of this great event attracted many sailing enthusiasts along the waterfront who admired the queens of the sea. A jury of experts met after the show and announced three winners: Sorella the oldest boat (launched in 1958), the 8-metre Aria as the best restored yacht, and Delfino as the boat that best interprets the spirit of tradition.
