Martin Allerton:

Powerboat racer Jackie Hunt, the proven master of egg-celeration, will be a special VIP guest at Freegrounds Junior School, Hedge End, Southampton, on Thursday 5th October, where she will be taking part in the 2006 British Egg Week.

Now into its 10th year, the theme for this year’s British Egg Week is healthy eating and exercise. As part of the campaign a tour of UK schools is taking place, where children will be educated on the importance of healthy eating and shown how easy it is to whip up an egg dish fit for a champion, courtesy of World Record Omelette maker Howard Helmer and local sporting heroes.

Jackie, who claimed the 2006 Powerboat P1 World Championship title during last weekend’s Port-egg-ese Grand Prix of the Sea – when she scrambled past the finishing line to poach the honours away from her fellow challengers – will show off her cookery skills to the children of Freegrounds whilst sharing her powerboat racing experiences and how important diet has been to her success.

She will also be signing copies of a new charity recipe booklet – “Sporting Eggsellence” – which has been launched for British Egg Week and features major British sport stars’ favourite egg recipes. The booklet, which contains recipes such as Gary Lineker’s Courgette frittata and Sir Steve Redgrave’s Cheese omelette, is raising money for the charity SPARKS (Sports Aiding Medical Research for Kids).

For the children of Freegrounds Junior School it promises to be a truly memorable eggs-perience!
