Trade show news:

METS is more than an exhibition, it is the biggest and best attended meeting place for leisure marine trade professionals in the world. METS 2006 – 14-15-

16 November – will be the nineteenth consecutive annual event, offering an unbeatable quantity and variety of marine equipment, materials, accessories and business tools in the spacious environment of the Europa Complex at Amsterdam RAI.

At just one venue, everything from propulsion, navigation, fittings, communications and safety equipment to furniture, construction materials, electrical installations, clothing and marine paints and coatings can be found. Many of these products will be on show for the first time at METS and some will be competing for the much coveted DAME Award, the internationally recognised prize for innovative new product design.

Irene Dros, product manager with show organiser Amsterdam RAI, comments: “We have been working very hard to guarantee a broad exhibition programme with high quality and innovative products that are sure to attract an increasing number of decision makers in our industry”.

National Pavilions

Many exhibitors choose to take stands in one of the National Pavilions, most of which are organised in cooperation with the relevant national marine industry association. There are 15 National Pavilions this year: Australia; Canada; Denmark; Finland; France; Germany; Italy; the Netherlands; New Zealand; Norway; Spain; Sweden; Turkey; the United Kingdom; and the United States.

Specialist pavilions

Following the success of the National Pavilions, the organisers introduced three specialist pavilions at METS. The established Composites and Marina Equipment pavilions and (after a successful introduction last year) the SuperYacht Pavilion, all return to highlight specific leisure marine growth areas. The bigger and improved SuperYacht Pavilion reflects the high end of the yacht business and is complemented by a very comprehensive superyacht conference programme – The Global Superyacht Forum; formerly known as Project 2006.

DAME: Design Award METS

The DAME prize is awarded annually to the best-designed product at the METS exhibition. It has become recognised worldwide as the leading competition of its type in the field of marine equipment and accessories. A leading international jury assesses new products entered into the competition in terms of design, functionality, originality, innovation, user-friendliness and price/quality ratio. The winner will be announced during the METS Breakfast Briefing hosted by ICOMIA and METS on Tuesday

14 November. All short-listed products will be featured in a special DAME presentation in Hall 6.

Conferences and seminars

Four key forum events are being held prior to or during the show:

Global Superyacht Forum incorporating Project 2006 for the 24m+ and 40m+ market
