As two yacht owners and entrepreneurs, Joe Vittoria, on the world’s largest sloop, and Tom Perkins, on the world’s largest clipper, left Monaco this morning, you could almost feel the presence of Sir Thomas Lipton, smiling at a scene that his Shamrock would have been part of 100 years ago!
The promised high winds didn’t materialise, nor did the typical Côte d’Azur cloudless blue skies, but it didn’t matter; this was the stuff sailing legends are about.
