Marcus Schlichting: After the long and the short offshore race the “Data Communication” took the lead in the fleet of 14 IMS boats at the HSH Nordbank blue championship. Perfect sailing conditions on bornholms waters expected crews from eight different nations with light winds from the south and a lot of sunshine. With a big disaster, the long distance race ends for the “Yugtranzit” (RUS). After they hit a rock, the boat retired and moved out of the water in Rönne on the east side of Bornholm. With their win of the Kieler Woche this year and the world champion titel in their pocket the “Yugtranzit” is now out of the HSH Nordbank blue championship. The line hours of the long distance race took the “2 Obnoxious” (ESP) after a 7 hours 37 minutes, after the race was shortend from 60 to 45 miles cause of low winds in the afternoon. But after corrected time “Data Communication” from Sweden was first, in front of “Ocean Warrior” from Sverre Valeur (Norway) and the IMX 40 “Birgitta” from Finland. For Saturday and Sunday there are six more up and down races schedule, before one of the 14 competitors can name himself „North European IMS Champion“.
