Marcus Schlichting: From nine different nations a fleet of 14 IMS boats started their first of eight races of the HSH Nordbank blue championship in front of the small harbour of Allinge/Bornholm today. The long distance race will bring the crews from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Estland, Russia, Spain and Poland on a 60 mile course around the island. The first yachts will be expected tonight. The Swedish yacht Data Communications was the first boat at the leward mark after race officer Eckart Reinke gave the starting gun this morning followed by the Yugtransit from Russia. So the competion between second and the world champion in IMS from august this year continues on Bornholm. But nevertheless, the rest of the fleet is on the highest level it could be for a IMS championship. Norway joins the championship with the IMX 40 Ocean Warrior of Sverre Valeur and the Beneteau 40.7 KRISTIN a strong fleet into the HSH Nordbank blue championship. Chartered by Peter Rudbäck from Sweden but with sailors from Norway, the “AL CAP ONE” starts with NOR in the sails and under the name Wolfpack Racing Team. “We have a very high level of IMS racing here at the HSH Nordbank blue championship and it will be thrilling competition with a strong fleet like that”, explains Ecki von der Mosel from the organisation team. After the another short offshore race on Friday and six up and downs on Saturday and Sunday the best boat can call himself „North European IMS Champion“.
