China & USA. ITT to sponsor Chinese Olympic Kayaking Team |

ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT) , a world-leading supplier of water treatment and fluid technology equipment and systems, announced that it would become the strategic partner of China's National Kayaking Team as it prepares for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The sponsorship officially started on September 1, 2006 and will last through December 31, 2008.
At a joint press conference with the Chinese Canoe Association in Beijing, ITT outlined the terms of its sponsorship, which will focus on upgrading the team's equipment and enhancing players' training abilities to improve the team's performance. ITT's products and technologies have been used in the kayak courses for Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Barcelona, Sydney and Athens. Recently, ITT began work on its award to help construct the kayaking course in Shunyi Olympic Water Park for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
"We think our sponsorship of the Chinese Canoe Association is a great fit for ITT," said Steven R. Loranger, Chairman, President and CEO of ITT Corporation. "China is a very important market for our company, particularly in the water and wastewater treatment areas. We have thousands of employees in China who are making a difference in helping China address the very real issues it faces with both water scarcity and cleanliness. We're proud of the success the China Canoe Association's athletes have already achieved, and we hope that our sponsorship support will help them continue their great achievements."
Referring to the recent success of China's kayaking team, Mr. Wei Di, Chairman of the Chinese Canoe Association said, "China's paddling program had struggled in international competition, but the China kayaking team made rapid progress in preparation for the Athens Olympic Games and won the first gold medal in its history in Athens. As the 2008 Olympic Games approach, Chinese kayaking athletes are making active preparations for further breakthrough in the sport."
Mr. Meng Guanliang, the gold medalist of 500m Men's Pair Canoeing in the Athens Olympic Games was present at the signing ceremony in Beijing, along with other team members. He said, "As a young program, China's National Canoeing Team will continue to improve, and with support throughout China, we are very confident about achieving a good result at the Beijing Olympic Games." |
