Boat builder news:
With regard to boat shows, autumn 2006 is packed with events for the Barcelona-based North Wind boatyard. To the essential event in Barcelona, we are pleased to add the shows in Genoa, Paris and Long Beach, California.
Barcelona International Boat Show
It is at the annual Spanish sailing gathering that North Wind is putting on its most important show, presenting the new NW 68 Flush Deck, the new model for 2007.
The successful NW 68 goes a step further, and now comes with a totally flush deck, and without the traditional cockpit that has been characteristic of North Wind boats to date.
The main features of this deck are its flush-fitting hatches, its centrally mounted binnacle and a composite glass-roofed hard top, making it possible to sit on the U-shaped sofa and be protected from the sun while sailing.
United States
North Wind will be present at the International Sail & Powerboat Show at Long Beach (California) with the NW 58 Tramontana On the Wind, a boat which since its launching has been sailing in American waters, where it has enjoyed great acclaim.
On the Wind is the first boat in the NW 58 Tramontana series, with a pre-preg carbon and epoxy resin hull, finished off with layers of epoxy resin and polyurethane. The rudder blade is also composite, while carbon has been chosen for the mast and the outrigger. The mainsail is furled on the boom, and there are hydraulic furlers for the staysail and the Genoa jib.
The owner has opted for a standard layout for this boat: owner’s cabin to the stern, and two cabins with bunks fore of the saloon, which, as in all North Wind boats, is semi-raised. The double central cockpit version has been chosen for the deck. The interior decoration is predominantly white, in contrast with the varnished teak of the bulkheads and furnishings.
Italy
Two of the boatyard’s models will be on show on the jetties of the 46th Genoa International Boat Show. The first is the NW 68 Ethica, with an innovative interior design that is different from that seen to date in previous boats. The second boat on show in the Italian event is the NW 58 Biri Bari Bragota. This Italian flag boat left the boatyard last spring. Its most striking characteristics include the red hull, a colour used for the first time by the boatyard, its interior spaciousness and its comprehensive standard fittings.
France
The last show in which North Wind will be present is the Paris International Boat Show. The company is exhibiting at this show for the first time, and it will present the services it offers as a boatyard and as a dockyard. With an area in excess of 16,000 square metres, and two travel lifts (65 tons and 150 tons), the North Wind dockyard is equipped to carry out refits, repairs and internal or external reforms on boats of any length ―both sailboats and motorboats―. It also has a workshop for aluminium, carpentry, cabinet making, metallurgy and soldering, with experts in rigging, hydraulics and composites. |
