Hermann Hell:
With only ten days to the HSH Nordbank blue championship starts on Bornholm there is 20 competitive IMS boats preparing for the final showdown in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
We founded this race and the ranking list with the intention of gathering the best IMS sailors in the region. When I now look at the entry list I can most definitely say that we have achieved our goal. I’m looking forward to some hard racing on Bornholm and the winner can call himself the ‘North European IMS Champion 2006’, says Hans-Eckhard von der Mosel, one of the key people behind the new regatta concept.
The Russian entry Yugtransit with Sergey Shevtsov on the helm is the favourite for the HSH Nordbank blue championship that starts September 21st on Bornholm, Denmark. Shetsov is managing his campaign well and have won both Kieler Woche and the IMS Worlds in his Grand Soleil 42R so far this year. That puts him on top of the new born ranking list for Northern Europe.
But he will be challenged by the Swedish Peter Rudbäck on Bornholm. Rudbäck has left his IMX 40 Imagine on the hard for the race. Instead he has chartered the Grand Soleil 42R Al*Cap*One from Norwegian grand-old-sailor Einar Sissener for the series. The Swedish business man is sailing with half the regular Al*Cap*One crew and the rest from Wolfpack Racing Team, a Norwegian Farr 40 project.
It will be eight IMX 40’s on Bornholm for the race. That’s a record for the Danish series build IMS boats. Norwegian Sverre Valeur is the favourite in the internal fight between the IMX. He won the Open Swedish IMS Championship earlier this year and is the highest ranked IMX 40 among the entries.
I’m very pleased to see that all the countries in the region is represented in the HSH Nordbank blue championship, says von der Mosel.
There are one Dannish, one Latvian, one from Estland, five Swedish, four Norwegian, three Polish, two Russian, three Finns, and three German boats on the starting line.
