Boat builder news:
Hailed at its launch as the ultimate combination of big-boat custom features with a small-boat price tag, demand for Fountaine Pajot’s newest sailing catamaran is far outstripping supply. Only available in the UK from this summer, the La Rochelle-based yard has already secured over 51 orders for the Mahé 36.
But it’s not just the sales figures that have been over-performing. The sailing characteristics have also been a bit of a surprise. “Like all designs we have a very good prediction of how well a certain hull and rig design will work in certain wind conditions,” explains Eric Bruneel, General Director of Fountaine Pajot. “With the new Mahé 36 our estimates throughout the design process have been very conservative. So, a boat that we predicted to handle well on paper, is actually class-leading on the water.”
“The new Mahé 36 has really struck a chord with private owners wanting a spacious interior that is really adaptable,” says Carl Livett of M.i.Cats in Chichester, the UK’s sole importer of Fountaine Pajot catamarans. “It’s the smallest boat in the range, but the yard has created a great package that represents real value for money and top performance in this sector.”
Available in two different versions, the boat firstly appeals as a family yacht with a spacious three-cabin layout. But, in its two-suite set up (one suite per hull) the Mahé 36 is the envy of any 36-foot cruiser – an unbeatable package of space, comfort and privacy. All this combined with the quality that comes with buying from the world’s most experienced cruising catamaran builder.
Visit Fountaine Pajot on berths 142 and 143 on the water at this year’s Southampton Boat Show. As well as a fully-loaded Cumberland 44 trawler catamaran and a Lavezzi 40 sailing cat, the M.i.Cats team will have some exciting news about two new additions to the Fountaine Pajot sailing range.
