Customs news:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air Interdiction Agents successfully directed the interdiction of 5.9 metric tons of cocaine loaded on a fishing vessel sailing 1,050 miles Southwest of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Aug. 24.
A CBP P-3 aircraft, based at P-3 Operations Center-Corpus Christi, located "Mi Panchito" and tracked it for 15 hours, ultimately vectoring a U.S. Coast Guard unit in the area to the location of the vessel for interdiction.
In another successful interdiction, a CBP P-3 aircraft, also based in Corpus Christi, Texas, detected a target of interest and vectored U.S. Navy units to the detection point for an interdiction Aug 27.
Smugglers aboard a fishing vessel "Anthon" tried to scuttle the boat to no avail as U.S. Navy units boarded the vessel and recovered 187 bales of cocaine estimated at 4.5 metric tons.
Close cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense and other Department of Homeland Security agencies shown in these cases enhances national security by preventing illegal narcotics, terrorists, and weapons from being smuggled into our Nation.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws. |
