Cruising news:

America's Vacation Center, an American Express Travel Representative, in partnership with Locks of Love and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, announced today the first-ever Locks of Love Cruise to benefit children with long-term hair loss from extended chemotherapy, alopecia areata, and other medical conditions.

The Locks of Love cruise was conceived and organized by Alishah Kier, an independent contractor with America's Vacation Center, who first heard about Locks of Love on the Tyra Banks show.

"I saw how Locks of Love helps suffering boys and girls regain a positive self-image and sense of confidence," Alishah said. "Having a medical problem is hard enough for a kid; we should do anything we can to help them feel prepared to face the world."

After reading more about Locks of Love's mission, Alishah decided to use her talents as a professional travel agent to help. Alishah called Locks of Love and Royal Caribbean to get both organizations "on board."

"We are grateful to Alishah Kier and America's Vacation Center for organizing such a wonderful event, which will further our efforts to help children living with medical hair loss," said Madonna Coffman, president of Locks of Love. "Continuing awareness of Locks of Love's efforts will assist us in reaching more and more families and improving the day-to-day lives of these children."

The Locks of Love cruise will be a 7-night Caribbean cruise aboard the largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas. It sails from Miami, Florida on September 9, 2007 and will visit Puerto Rico, Saint Thomas, and Saint Maarten. For every cabin Alishah sells on the sailing, $150 will be donated to Locks of Love.

"For decades we've been involved in supporting charities," said Brad Anderson, co-president of America's Vacation Center. "And with the Locks of Love cruise, we get to help families have a fantastic vacation and raise money for a great cause - everybody wins."

Before the ship sets sail, there will be an onboard hair-cutting opportunity for anybody wishing to donate their hair to Locks of Love. The hair-cutting will take place on September 9, 2007 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and is open to both passengers and non-passengers alike.

In addition to the onboard hair-cutting, there will be three hair-cutting opportunities put on by Darlene McClendon at Publicity Styling Salon in High Point, North Carolina. They will occur October 31, 2006, as well as February 13 and May 8, 2007.

Anyone interested in going on the Locks of Love cruise or in donating hair in North Carolina or aboard the ship should call Alishah Kier toll-free at 800-393-1581. Anyone interested in donating hair or money directly to Locks of Love can visit http://www.americasvacationcenter.com/LocksOfLove.
