Coastguard news:
Dover Coastguard received a call regarding the dolphins at 11.15 this morning. Folkestone Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to investigate and found the two dolphins snagged in a net. Dover Coastguard then requested the Littlestone Inshore RNLI lifeboat to launch and the British Marine Divers Mammal Unit were also informed. The unit has expertise in marine mammal rescue and representatives from the organisation have joined the other units on scene.
Peter Legg, Dover Coastguard Senior Watch Manager says: "The two dolphins have now been caught up in the nets for at least a couple of hours and are becoming quite distressed. We are hoping that with all the expertise on scene we will be able to release them back out to sea." |
