Company news:

Transas Group is pleased to announce that Aberdeen Harbour Board has recently ordered an upgrade of their Navi-Trainer Professional (NTPro4000) navigational and ship handling simulator.

The original NTPro 4000 simulator, which was supplied by Transas Marine UK in 2003, is to be relocated to the AHB’s new Marine Operations Centre at North Pier (see attached photograph). The simulator will then be upgraded and expanded, allowing AHB to provide state-of-the-art training on some of the most realistic and powerful systems available on the market. The addition of a second Bridge will enable the interaction between a large vessel and a tug or a standby vessel and her daughter craft.

The new simulator configuration includes 210 degree projected visuals, Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), Radar/ARPA, Navaids, CCTV and Conning Display for the first Bridge. The new second bridge will include 30 degree projected visuals, Radar/ARPA, CCTV and Conning Display. Both Bridges will include dedicated Transas hardware designed to replicate equipment and ship’s controls in order to enhance the realism for trainees. The addition of new vessel controls will allow ship models to be operated from both ends of the wheelhouse and will reflect the equipment installed on modern oil support vessels and tugs.

The visualisation graphics and exercise databases available in the latest NTPro4000 marine simulators are second to none. AHB’s Operations Director & Harbour Master, Captain Ray Shaw, said, “The simulator is a valuable tool, and we expect to undertake more in-house training in the future. The enhanced equipment will make an increased contribution to operations and safety at the port, and also to marine activities undertaken by others.”

The original simulator was installed at the Board’s Blaikies Quay facility in 2002. Since then, it has been used extensively in the training of Board pilots and other marine staff in port operations and emergency scenarios. It is also being used on a commercial basis for training and assessing pilots from other ports and crews from safety standby vessels within the offshore oil industry.

Bruce Mills, Senior Sales and Projects Manager, Transas Marine (UK) Limited, said:

“Transas and Aberdeen Harbour Authority have had a long and successful partnership over the last 5 years. We are delighted that the Marine Operations Centre will also be equipped with the latest Transas Navi-Monitor Vessel Traffic Management System (VTS), which will include 2 x radars, weather station, VHF radio, data recording and playback.

We hope to build on this relationship in the future and to help Aberdeen Harbour Authority to maintain their position as one of the most progressive and innovative harbour authorities in the UK.”
