Trade show news:

FuelCell Energy, Inc. (NasdaqNM:FCEL), a leading manufacturer of ultra-clean electric power plants for commercial, industrial and government customers, announced today that for the third consecutive year it has donated emissions credits to the federal government's Energy 2006 Workshop and Trade Show, enabling the 2006 show to offset the event's environmental impact.

Each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity generated by FuelCell Energy's ultra-clean power plants reduces emissions that would have been created by power plants to provide energy for the show. This year, the company will donate emission credits to offset the Energy 2006 show, including energy used on-site, and emissions caused by attendees' travel to the event.

FuelCell Energy's first contribution of emission credits, for the Energy 2004 show in Rochester, NY, was recognized as a Best Practice for Sustainable Development by the US General Services Administration's (GSA). The company's donation in 2005 garnered GSA's Achievement Award for Real Property Innovation for offsetting all emissions generated by that year's show.

"GSA is committed to reducing federal emissions by identifying and supporting best practices like the donation of emissions credits by our private sector partners," said Mike Ziskind, GSA's National Events Manager. "Being able to offset the emissions for this year's show is one case where we are leading by example."

The 2006 Energy Workshop and Exhibition, which runs August 6-9 in Chicago, is one of the largest gatherings of federal sector energy managers.

Experts contend that emissions credit trading will help foster development of cleaner and more efficient technologies such as fuel cells. For example, FuelCell Energy's contribution of emission credits for the Energy 2004 show offset pollution created by the three-day event, which was attended by more than 1000 people, used 125,000 kWh of electricity at the Convention Center and 5,700 therms of natural gas. In addition, over 56,000 gallons of kerosene were used for 1,840,000 air passenger miles and more than 2,000 gallons of gasoline consumed for 144,000 vehicle miles traveling to and from the event.

FuelCell Energy will donate for permanent retirement its own emission reductions in nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, PM10 and CO2 -- from electricity generated by running its power plants -- to the Energy Expo and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). BEF, a non-profit provider of renewable energy products and a pioneer in establishing renewable energy certificates generated from alternative energy, will certify the donation.

This GSA Green Meetings Best Practice, nominated by GSA's office of Citizen Services and Communications with GSA's Energy Center of Expertise was selected as one of three winners of the 2005 GSA Achievement Award for Real Property Innovation by an independent jury panel comprised of real estate and workplace industry experts.

"Donating credits to these workshops over the last three years showcases how our high efficiency power plants reduce emissions," said Bruce Ludemann, FuelCell Energy's Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing. "We're pleased that GSA recognized our offsets, and expect that our DFC power plants increasingly will be favored as an environmentally friendly and efficient energy source."

The high efficiency of DFC power plants not only results in less fuel needed per unit of power output and lower operating costs, but reduced amounts of carbon dioxide. By generating power without combustion, there are significantly less harmful pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and particulates.
