Tevake II, the line honours leader in the Queensland Government sponsored Port Vila to Mackay race, the 1134 nautical mile second leg of the South Pacific Boomerang series, is expected to cross the Mackay finish line tomorrow morning.

At this morning's Tascoast Radio sked, she was 13 miles east north east Of Howards Patch Reef, which is the outer reef turning mark, a little over 200 miles from the Mackay finish line.

It's been a hard wet reach for the Mackay bound fleet for the last 36 hours, but when the Radford 45 Tevake II turns the corner, she will surf north north west pushed by a 20/25 knot wind, which will continue to build overnight and she could easily finish around dawn.

Bob Tanner race director commented today 'The leading boats will be pleased to make the turning mark and with winds backing to the south will enjoy the conditions to the finish line in Mackay.'

Just 16 miles behind her, Tony Fowler's Inglis 47 Ocean Skins is still holding off Brian Pattinson and Pat Guidice's Open 60 Gusto, now only 26 miles astern and both boats could arrive before midday Monday.

On handicap Mike and Mark Welsh's Lidgard 39 Alien, leads Tevake II, by just two and a half hours on corrected time, with George Shaw's By Order of the Secretary (BOOTS)in third place.

Ocean Skins leads the Performance Handicap division, by less than two hours on corrected time from Robin Hewitt's Yoko, with Ingenue third.

Ingenue, the fleet back marker is expected to reach Mackay on Wednesday.

All crews are looking forward to the hot showers and good food at Mackay marina and Mackay yacht club where anticipation of the Melbourne boats arrival is building.

They will have a small wait after arrival as unlike most Australian finishing yacht races these boats will have to clear customs. The price of coming to Mackay from Melbourne by the scenic route, via Vanuatu.
