Coastguard news:
Solent Coastguard has been liaising this morning with various rescue organisations after they received a call at 11.00 a.m. from the harbour master reporting a stranded dolphin who is very much alive within Chichester harbour.
The Harbour Patrol craft has been on scene throughout. The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) organisation were also alerted whose teams are on standby to respond immediately to any marine disaster or marine mammal stranding anywhere in the UK.
All their volunteers regularly train to refresh rescue techniques and they have sent a vet and two medics to the area. The Police were also alerted for any crowd issues that may arise.
The mammal was then transferred to a Landover, transported to a safe area and with the BDMLR in attendance; an attempt will be made to reintroduce it back into the sea later this afternoon at Northney marina. |
