Awards news:
The Coast Guard Foundation received the Silver Bell Award from the Seamen’s Church Institute of New York and New Jersey. The Silver Bell Award is given to an individual or organization that has made extraordinary contributions to the maritime community.
“It’s an honor for the Coast Guard Foundation to be recognized by an organization that has a 170-year history of service to the maritime community,” said Ross Roeder, chairman. “The Foundation is committed to helping Coast Guard members strengthen their performance and enhance their service to our nation.”
The Seamen’s Church Institute advocates for the personal, professional, and spiritual well being of merchant mariners around the world. Founded in 1834, the Institute is a voluntary, ecumenical agency affiliated with the Episcopal Church.
“Seamen’s Church Institute chose the Coast Guard Foundation because of its long-standing, faithful service to the men and women of the US Coast Guard. The Foundation’s response to the devastating hurricanes last year in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas ensured that Coast Guard heroes received emergency relief,” said the Rev. Dr. Jean R. Smith, executive director of Seamen’s Church Institute. |
