Nadja Arp & Mareike Guhr:

Usually Alexander Krause sails on the German Americas Cup yacht in Valencia. For the 69th Warnemünder Woche the 24 year old sailor from Berlin came to help on the V.O.60 Racer "Mac Arosa"(Ex-"Illbruck") in the 270 mile race around Bornholm.

Last year it was too much - this year not enough....the wind was not with the participants of the Round Bornholm race this year. Huge calms have been the biggest challenge for the sailors, heating up in the sun. First ship home was the "Bank von Bremen", crossing the finish line at 7:58 A.M. "The boat is really fast", raved skipper Rainer Persch. Only three month ago they took the newly build yacht (Judel/Vrolijk 53) under command. "Next year we will participate in the Blue Race from New York to Hamburg - this was a first test", completed Persch. Second yacht in the harbour was "Express", a Rodman 42 helmed by Andreas Jaeger, followed by "Joker" with Torsten Fass at 12:34 P.M. Until late afternoon/early evening on Wednesday, half of the yachts had crossed the finish line.

"We brought the Caribbean to Warnemünde!" was the conclusion of Iris Groß.

Since four years now, she is race officer of the long distance race round Bornholm and was happy about the nice weather.

Fights for the title in the Folkeboot class The battle for the German championship title in the Folkeboat class is getting tougher. Today conditions allowed three races. "The wind was pretty shifty again and we needed to reset the race course once, but at least the wind was strong enough", said race officer Jens Merda. Again some crews where disqualified by black flag starts. Bernd Schädlich from Kiel is leading the ranking list after six races followed by the winner of the Kiel Week, Christoph Nielsen from Berlin.

"The top crews are very close together and the sailing was truly "tricky" today", said Nielsen, who sailed the most constant series so far. The current German champion Jürgen Breitenbach (Kiel) won two races today and is ranked on sixth place of the list. Still two days of racing with a maximum of four more races are left to find the German champion 2006.

Trouble on the Sportboat-course

In the fleet of the sportboat class - the sailors for the European Championship had their some tough racing too, today. A collision forced crewmembers to take a swim - but no damage was done. The Jury had a busy day to control the fleet. "The class is sailing very aggressive and we need to deal with a lot of protests", said race officer Lennart Klemp. On the ranking List, the Italian crew with Alessandro Durante on board "Gullisara" is in the lead, followed by the Belgium crew around Franz Hawer on board "XAM BOX" and Janusz Olszewski on "Tradewinds" from Poland.

On Thursday 11:00 A.M the regtta of the Olympic Tornado-Class for the international German Championship starts. Teams from Greece, Poland, Great Britain, Denmark and Austria are sailing for the title as well as the German top teams.
